Bavaro - Dominican Republic
The DR today is best known for the 50-km stretch of white sand beaches running from Punta Cana through Bavaro along its east shoreline.
Dozens of large resorts sprawl the shoreline, but there are still nooks and crannies that while less known will lead independent tourists to also enjoy the same beach stretches tourists that the tourists at the all-included hotels claim as their own. These include Cabeza de Toro, El Cortecito and Bavaro, Uvero Alto, Macao.

Punta Cana is a vacationers heaven that primarily caters to entire families. While most excursions cater to packaged tour groups, these can be booked individually online or right on the beach.
Prime attractions in the area is the Punta Cana Ecological Foundations nature trails and freshwater lagoons; Manati park, a 130,000 square meter recreational area with exhibits of birds, reptiles, dancing parrots and horses; the Dolphin Park for swims in the ocean with the dolphins; the Bavaro Runners Zip Lines; fourwheel bike rides, buggy rides, jeep safaris, monster trucks and even helicopter rides. There parasailing, snorkeling and scuba diving to sunken ship sites, and double decker party boats for the nighttime.
Road trips can be had to San Rafael de Yuma to visit the plantation home today museum that belonged to Ponce de Leon, who later would found Puerto Rico and Florida. A short ride on the main road further south takes visitors to the seaside Boca de Yuma town for fresh fish tasting, and loud bachata, salsa and merengue music dancing on weekends with the locals.
